Tamworth Castle Conservation Management Plan

The Conservation Management Plan was commissioned by Tamworth Borough Council to inform a bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund. Its purpose is to provide a basis for both day to day management and the consideration of development proposals for the site and its collections. It draws together existing information about Tamworth Castle and its extensive collections in order to develop an understanding of its development through time; assess the significance of the castle, its components, collections and archives; define issues which impact on the castle; and proposes policies for guiding future management and protecting significance. The detailed descriptions of individual elements of the castle and its parkland setting are summarised in a separate gazetteer. Preparation of the CMP involved extensive community consultation and participatory displays. Recommendations on new themes and storylines for interpretation and linkages with the Saxon Burh and Medieval Town were also provided drawing on the research for the CMP.
